We all love diving nose deep into a big book as much as the next person, but what about the times when all we want is an amuse-bouche of literature, AKA a short story. Well, lucky for us, May has arrived and brought another celebration of the second golden age of the short story. Maybe you’ve never heard of Short Story Month. Maybe you impatiently wait for Short Story Month every year. No matter your camp, here are some great ways to get the short story party started for the next 31 days:

Read a Story
Put that novel down, and pick up a quick read! I haven’t read a short story since the internet was only available with a “limited edition” CD from AOL. (What’s a CD? What’s an AOL? There’s no time for that now children, and stop interrupting grandma when she’s talking.) So…I’m recommending some of my high school readings like Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart or The Cask of Amontillado, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, or The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry.
So…What’s your favorite short story? How will you celebrate Short Story Month? Let us know in the comments! |RL
