It’s Our Anniversary
Happy Blogiversary to Us!! It’s been a year since our first post hit the internet streets. On September 10, 2016, we published a news bulletin about our commitment to diversity in the world of literature and publishing. Although the post was a short read, it sowed the seed for what has become Reel Literature. In addition to the news bulletin, the first month’s posts included a review of The Devil Wears Prada and some cool ideas for creating a bookish Halloween costume. Since then, we’ve come quite a ways baby!! Reel Literature has published some AMAZING content that makes us beam with pride. Here are some of our favorite posts from the last 12 months:
From A to Z: This is an original series created by Reel Literature to provide information about a chosen book using the alphabet for the people too busy, too lazy, or too uninterested to read said book. Since it is my favorite book of all time, Jane Eyre was given the honor of inaugural book in this series.
Literary Ponderings: Here is another Reel Lit series where we answer one of the many bookish questions that are constantly swirling around in our brains. For the first post in this series, we share the fictional characters who are invited to our bookish dinner party.
#DiversityBoost: We found this project while exploring the amazing world of book blogging and eagerly jumped on board because who wouldn’t want to celebrate diversity in the book world and shine a bright light on books from #ownvoice authors?! Thanks to that commitment, we reviewed an intriguing historical fiction novel, an awesome book about bad-ass women, and a very relatable personal finance book.
Challenge Accepted: Participating in the Summer 2017 Comment Challenge and the Blogust Challenge definitely occurred on a whim, but they were the most amazing opportunities to engage with other book bloggers and the vast blogging community! During June, July, and August, we partnered with another book blog and left comments on their posts and connected with them on social media. August was extremely busy since we participated in not one, but TWO CHALLENGES!!! For the Blogust Challenge, we published additional content on the blog and our social media pages to increase our engagement with you, dear reader.
What’s in a Name: OMG!! Another original series we created…we are SOOOO creative! 😉 In this series, a character’s name is used to highlight the events and personality traits that reflect what we know and love about them. The first character we dissected was one of the most famous (and magical!) literary characters, Harry Potter.
Goaltending in Analytics
Most bloggers are kind of obsessed with the numbers. How many pageviews? How many followers? How many visitors? We are no exception…we want Reel Literature to be the go-to website when it comes to reviewing book-to-movie adaptations! For the first year, we used the following goals to measure our success:
Reach 1000 pageviews: We sustained OVER 100 pageviews each month, so this is definitely MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!! We know big bloggers will laugh at those numbers because their pageviews are in the ten thousands or even the millions by the end of the year, but we all gotta start somewhere, right?! As a small newbie blog in this vast book blogging world, we are just ecstatic that people actually found us.
Have at least 200 unique visitors: Another mission accomplished for Reel Literature! Not only did we get 200 unique visitors, we almost reached 300!!! We are so glad new people are finding the blog, and we hope our long-time fans will continue to visit.
Get 10 blog subscribers: Once again we surpassed expectations with over 20 subscribers!!!! It is hard to believe that people not only wanted to read our bookish thoughts, but they were the first people in line. We are so thankful to everyone who hit the subscribe button on Bloglovin’, followed us through WordPress, or signed up for the email blasts! Y’all are the real MVPs!!!!
So…did you think we would make it through the first year? What is your favorite post from the highlights? Are you celebrating a blogiversary? Let us know in the comments! |RL
