BOOK BLOGGER HOP: BOOK CLUBS

Today’s post is inspired by fellow book blog, Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer, and the weekly meme, Book Blogger Hop. Each Friday the hop begins with a prompt featuring a book-related question and continues until Thursday. The purpose of the hop is to meet and greet with fellow book bloggers and hopefully gain some new followers. This week’s topic is all about book clubs, to be specific:

“How many book clubs do you belong to? If you do belong to an in-person book club, do you have meetings in the day or evening? Do you meet at someone’s house or meet at a local restaurant or coffee house?”

Currently, I am not in a book club, unless you count this blog as my personal book club for one, which in my opinion doesn’t really count. That would be cheating, right?! I was in a VERY short-lived book club with my beau when we first started dating. We read one book, Lord of the Flies. Surprisingly, it was the beau who wanted to start the book club, and I happily obliged because I always wanted to be in a book club, too! However, the beau wanted us to write book reports (which I wasn’t feeling too much), but I wrote it because that was the rule of book club, and I’m always a good sport. For the meeting part of book club, we had lunch at our local Zoup! to read our book reports to each other and discuss what we loved and didn’t love about the book. Our book club basically died on the vine with the second book, my pick of Little Women, which took me FOREVER to read because work and life got in the way, and it took me a few months to finish the book. Plus, once I finally finished the book, I definitely didn’t want to write a book report. BUT! It did pave the way to me starting this blog! YAY!!!!

  1. I recently moved to a new city and needed a way to meet new people. I figured if I could hand-pick my friends, they would love to read as much as I do and would love to have a good time. I went onto Meetup (meetup.com) and found a book club group called Women Who Wine (and occasionally read). I’ve only been to a couple of meetings, but it’s been so much fun! I definitely recommend that site to find a real life book club. I also kind of follow Reese Witherspoon’s and Oprah’s book clubs, but not really. I love your book club story! I’m not sure if I’d write a book report, but kudos to you!

    1. Thank you! I deserve a gold star for writing a book report for book club! I used Meetup to find friends when I moved to a new city, and it was really helpful in that department. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find a book club to join. Your Women Who Wine book club sounds like my kind of book club! 🙂

  2. Two meetings is kind of short for a book club, wow 😀 but maybe it’s the book choices. I have been in one book club, but it also didn’t quite work out. While we met a lot more times, it also sort of deteriorated into just a girls’ club hanging out having drinks 😀 it was fun, but none of it was about books. Essentially, we didn’t know how to have book discussions. There always needs to be a leading person, I guess we didn’t have one. And then the choice of book is really important, and that was always the toughest bit xD to choose something that everyone can obtain at the right time and finish at the right time, not to even speak about tastes… it’s tough stuff 😀

    1. Yeah, we might have had the shortest book club ever 😂 , but we still get to kind of talk about books when I’m on his podcast. Plus, I really didn’t want to do those book reports. The choice of books is sooooo important, and it can totally derail a book club, which was definitely the case in my situation. I hope you’re still hanging out and having those drinks because that sounds like a good time! 🙂
